When a former Republican Congressman Hosts a show on a Liberal Network You Have to Watch
Shocked and annoyed, what was I felt when I noticed this, Morning Joe show on MSNBC was hosted by former Republican congressman Joe Scarborough. I wondered how the hell this man got a show on MSNBC when FOX news was more in line with his political leaning. Like any fair citizen would, I watched. Immediately I was impressed by the attention to detail of the graphics used, the music, the product placement (Brewed by Starbucks), and the guests.
Still, I found Joe Scarborough to be the same smug & self righteous politician he was while he was in congress. Conspicuously, Joe had toned down his right-wing rhetoric while on MSNBC, but still slyly crafting questions to evoke answers that mirrored his true right-wing nature and beliefs. During the first days of the war in Libya, in one hour he had referred to the conflict as an "African civil war" multiple times. Surely wishing to lead viewers to be against our involvement, by pointing out it was a war between darker people, on the dark continent. It seemed to me to be a modern take on the Southern strategy way of politicing these days. Trying to subtly scare the middle American white voters.
Fortunately the show is co-hosted by the intellectually curious, & stunningly beautiful Mika Brzezinski. She brings us back to reality, when Scarborough takes off on one of his flights of right-wing fancy disguised as pragmatical moderation rants. While you will find Mika to be authentic, refreshing, & down-to-Earth; Joe is mostly disingenuous, sometimes closed-minded, and embracing of good ol boy Republican discriminatory humor. I do, however, think his time on MSNBC has softened his hard right wing edges. Sometimes he seems to be genuine in his pragmatism, sometimes.
In any case Morning Joe is one of my favorite morning shows. I've become an addict, and a fan of both Joe & Mika, and look forward to seeing them each and every morning. The pace of the show will keep you enraptured, the guests will keep you intrigued, and the topics will keep you entertained and informed. It's better than the Today Show, GMA, or the Early show, so give it a try.
Morning Joe airs 6am to 9am EST on MSNBC
